April Builders’ Merchant value sales up +3.0% year-on-year. Volumes up +3.4%

The latest Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) report, published in June, shows builders’ merchants’ total value sales in April were up +3.0% compared to April 2024. Volumes increased +3.4% year-on-year, while prices eased -0.3%. With one less trading day in the most recent period, like-for-like value sales – which take trading day differences into account - were up +8.2%.

The latest Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) report reveals builders’ merchants’ value sales for Q1 2025 were up +0.9% compared to Q1 2024. There was a moderate increase in volume sales (+3.9%), while prices came down -2.9%. There was no difference in trading days.

We are delighted to announce the expansion of our service offering with the appointment of three new merchandising representatives. This strategic growth increases the nationwide merchandising team to five, with two additional representatives set to join later this year.

The newly appointed team members bring valuable experience and regional insight into their roles.

The Northeast, Yorkshire, and Scotland will be covered by Christan Gibbon. Although new to the industry, Christan brings fresh enthusiasm and is eager to connect with customers and is looking to deliver a complete, service-driven experience.

Sean Teeling will be responsible for the Northern Home Counties, the West Midlands, and East Anglia. With prior experience as an Engagement Executive for merchants, Sean brings a strong network of industry contacts and is looking forward to strengthening relationships and building new ones.

Owlett-Jaton has made a strong start to 2025 by launching three catalogues into the market: the JCP Catalogue 2025, the JRP Catalogue 2025, and a brand-new Builders’ Merchant Catalogue.

Available in print and digital formats, each catalogue is tailored to its audience and aims to deliver one of the most comprehensive and user-friendly product resources in its category.

The JCP Catalogue has undergone significant updates to improve usability. Trade and retail items are now grouped within their respective product sections, allowing easier access to technical data. Five new product ranges have been added, including ETA Option 1 Flange Head Ankerbolts, ETA Socket Bolts, two new J-Fix Polyester Resins, and Drivefast Nails. Certified range logos have been updated and added to the relevant products, along with a Pro-Suite logo to highlight compatibility with the ACP Program, helping customers identify suitable solutions immediately.

Volume sales remain flat (-0.1%) while prices dropped -2.6%. With one less trading day in the most recent period, like-for-like sales were up +2.2%.

The latest Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) report, published in March, shows builders’ merchants’ value sales in January down -2.3% compared to the same month in 2024. Volume sales were flat (+0.0%) and prices slipped -2.3%. There was no difference in trading days.

Ian Doherty, Chief Executive of Owlett-Jaton, has retired, effective 31st March 2025.

Following an extensive career in distributive businesses, Ian joined Owlett-Jaton in 2016. He brought a passion for customer service along with extensive hands-on experience in sales, marketing and supply chain operations.
