JOB DESCRIPTION – WAREHOUSE OPERATIVE

OVERVIEW

The role of the warehouse operative is to ensure the picking, packing and despatch of orders in a safe, timely and efficient manner. The role is executed across several tasks and operatives are expected to be able (with training) to be able to execute the full range of tasks.

  • Ensure that all lifting and manoeuvring of product is carried out in accordance with manual handling procedures.
  • Operate in a safe manner complying with all health, safety and environmental requirements to ensure own and safety of others.
  • Ensure all accidents and near misses are reported.
  • Ensure that potential or actual breaches of safe working practices are identified, reported and appropriate remedial action taken.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Picking orders using hand.
  • Confirm items picked correspond to the items described on the Hand-Held Terminal.
  • Packing items to ensure they remain secure and undamaged to their destination.
  • Loading goods into cages.
  • Packing goods onto pallets in a safe, stable and safe condition.
  • Move stock around by hand, trolley or hand pallet truck.
  • Carry out stock counts as and when required.
  • Report any discrepancies.
  • Handle any hazardous materials in an appropriate manner.
  • Keep areas of work clean and tidy to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Make recommendations to aid efficiency and add value.
  • Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules and regulations.

In addition, once qualified on warehouse Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE)

  • Operate and maintain preventively warehouse vehicles and equipment.
  • Loading of goods onto nominated carrier transport using MHE.
  • Picking orders using MHE.
  • Moving stock using MHE.

  • An understanding of health and safety requirements.

  • Ensure specified deadlines for work and/or reporting are met.
  • Be accountable for the area of business you work in.
  • A willingness to learn and be willing to obtain a FLT/MHE Licence.
  • Ensure any special instructions are noted and carried out.
